Oscar night favourites

Was it just me, or did pretty much everyone look their best at the Oscars?

Now, I’m not one to keep my eye on who is wearing what, but I couldn’t help myself when I noticed two stars wearing couture designs by one of my favourite couture designers, Elie Saab!

How gorgeous is this couture design? I think the colour is something unique to the Oscar red carpet; it certainly suits Stone’s skin tone and accentuates her ever curve oh so perfectly.

She does look like a princess! I love the flowy bottom half and the colour of this couture design on Lopez. Of course, I am also in love with the intricate detailing on the waist and upper half of the dress. It does add a touch of glitz and glamour. Personally, I believe this tops the best dressed list of the night.

Haute Couture: Zuhair Murad SS15

Zuhair Murad : Runway - Paris Fashion Week - Haute Couture S/S 2015

Seems like most of the couture designers are heading down the embellishment path for this Spring and Summer season. I ain’t complaining. I’m totally in love with most of the collections that were showcased. This would be the last post on Paris Couture Week and highlights the work of Lebanese fashion designer Zuhair Murad, yet another favourite of mine. Take a look:

His collection was very much dream-like and flowy, utterly feminine and exotic with extensive bead work. He I must add that his collection also had a variety of hues in terms of the blues, pinks, yellows and off whites. I did also like the change of silhouettes and the additions of capes to some of the dresses.

Haute Couture: Elie Saab SS15

Elie Saab, another favourite designer of mine. I find that his designs, to an extent, are also like Hobeika’s – very much inspired by nature, flowy and feminine. Take a look at my picks of his collection:

The entire collection consists of long flowy dresses and gowns – much to my liking. The detailed floral work are a beautiful complement to the understates hues of the designs.

Haute Couture: Georges Hobeika SS15

I’ve been in love with his designs for years. There really are no words to describe how creative Georges Hobeika truly is. For those of you who are unaware of who he is, Hobeika is a Lebanese fashion designer of haute couture and ready-to-wear clothing. I became acquainted with his work when he came down to Sri Lanka a few years ago for a fashion show.

I did a review of one of his collections sometime last year (Monet’s Midnight Stroll) and so this would be my second but first for Spring and Summer 2015. Hobeika showcased his latest designs at Paris Couture Week and here are a few of my favourites!

You’d notice that his entire collection consists of full and knee length gowns and dresses. It’s easy to admit that he hardly ever designs pants. His love for somber and soft shades are also once again highlighted. As for the silhouettes, I find that the full bloom effect complements the coming Spring season and is therefore far more than ideal and appealing.

I’d describe the collection as utterly and entirely feminine – dainty like and sweet unlike some of the other collection showcased by fashion designers this season. I also absolutely love the intricate detailing in each of his designs, be the florals or the sparkles.

Hobeika has a liking towards using crepe and silk chiffon to create both captivating and sensual silhouettes for the ideal woman in mind. I find that this is also what makes his designs stand out from the rest.

Street chic

It’s Paris Couture Week and I believe that the best fashion pics are spotted not just on the runway but also off the runway – in the streets!

Concept 2015

PicMonkey Collage

The FH Studio takes exclusive menswear to new heights with the second edition of its annual ‘Concept’ show. ‘Concept 2015’, a fashion show of international class is conceptualized by renowned men’s fashion consultant Fouzul Hameed and will enhance the Sri Lankan men’s fashion arena. ‘Concept 2015’ will be held on Saturday 22 November 2014 at Water’s Edge and will showcase an exclusive range of menswear that will transform the man of today into the man of tomorrow.

‘Concept 2015’ will showcase a total of nine collections, which include the Blue Story, a Printed look, Denim look, Italian look, Indoor Western look, Fusion look, Formal look, Power Dressing look, and Ceremonial look. Inspired by European architecture and the colours of nature, this show will forecast fashion trends a year in advance, allowing men to be more aware of the trends they need to lookout for and use to dress for different occasions. Adding an element of glamour to the show, renowned local and international models will showcase each collection at the event.

Commenting on the launch, Fouzul Hameed, Managing Director of the Hameedia Group stated, “A man needs many things in life to be complete, which is a healthy life, comfortable traveling, perfect grooming, ease of mind and a heart to give back to the society. ‘Concept 2015’ show revolves around that purpose. Last year we took a great leap forward by launching our very own fashion show. The show has been created to change the landscape of menswear fashion in Sri Lanka. The way someone is dressed defines their personality and this show is all about showcasing the extensive range of clothing that we create for men. It’s all about showing men that their clothes need not be rudimentary and discreet, the show helps men realize that they can make great fashion choices for every occasion. Prasad Bidapa comes on board again this year as the choreographer for ‘Concept 2015’. We are honoured to partner with him and his experience and expertise will undoubtedly give the show an international look and feel, making it the most anticipated menswear extravaganza in the local fashion calendar.”

Hameed further added, “Serving society is a core value of the Hameedia Group, and ‘Concept 2015’ will feature a variety of fundraising initiatives. Many strategic partners are joining our fundraising efforts this year by supporting this event and all proceeds collected via ‘Concept 2015’ will be channelled towards the ‘My Friend’ project, which helps educate underprivileged and marginalized children across the country. The Captain of Sri Lanka’s National Cricket Team, Angelo Matthews, is a trustee and ambassador of the ‘My Friend’ project and he continues to support all the fundraising initiatives we have planned for the project at ‘Concept 2015’.

Fouzul Hameed is the mogul of menswear in Sri Lanka and the upcoming ‘Concept 2015’ show is set to further enhance the Sri Lankan men’s fashion arena and uplift the FH brand to international standards. The collections that will be showcased at the event encompass over 60 years of tradition, know-how and expertise and will truly raise the bar of the local menswear industry. ‘Concept 2015’ will look towards future seasons while expanding on lifestyle-influenced designs that are tailored to suit every individual.
