Romantic bohemian – tips + trends

I’m back after a two week hiatus to India! I gotta say, it was quite an amazing experience traveling from one city to another and I’ve so many wonderful pictures to share with all you, but of course I’ll leave that for another post. Right now I’m going to be talking about another spring trend I’ve seen pop up literally everywhere including India and right here at home in Sri Lanka and that is the romantic bohemian trends.

I find that this particular trend is somewhat a fusion of prints and textures and that’s something I like a lot. My closet and clothing is pretty much a combination of 80% prints and textures so yeah..!

I find that loose tops are a great part of a bohemian look and the white top with blue embroidery work is something I bought myself while shopping in India at one of my favourite stores in Global Desi. It’s actually kind of a long dress with an asymmetrical bottom which I absolutely love. What makes this trend so special and unique is that you can mix and match items you probably already own in your closet and just make it work. A baggy long tee can be used to create a bohemian look if you just team it up with some long beaded necklaces, a tassle handbag and perhaps a hair adornment to complete it. All you gotta do is make it work!

Bold and bright colours are a must as you can see, so dig in deep in your closet for the brightest items of clothing you’ve got. Let’s also not forget the accessories. Accessories make such a huge difference when paired well with an outfit so choose yours wisely to complete your romantic bohemian look.

When it comes to makeup, I think it’s best to keep a subtle look because you’ve already got a lot going on when it comes to your outfit but occasionally I suppose if you keep things light, then you could amp up your makeup.

Smokey eyes and eyeliners in bright bold colours are a huge rave so think out of the box when playing with your makeup. Your nails can be given the same kind of treatment; you can play with pastel shades or go with bright hues.

Organisational DIY’s

Sometimes I tend to do things without realizing. Like organising. Yes, I organise my things without me realising and I actually quite like it when it happens. I noticed the other day I had organised a few bits and bobs and thought I should share the tips with you all.

I had this little rectangular basket in one of the bathroom cupboards. I didn’t realise that I had stored all my little sample tit bits and travel sized lotions, hand creams and shower gels in it. So here’s a step by step guide as to how I re-organised them just for you all to see. Oh, I’ve got a mini candle in there too, a face exfoliating thing (I think I’ve used it only once or twice), an extra travel toothbrush, hand sanitizer, a soap bar and a tub of Vaseline. I find that they all fit inside quite well and was easily stored without looking too shabby.

Now, this I know I put together with a lot of thought because I do value all the products I’ve bought and also received by Spa Ceylon. Yes, I have quite a few things and yes, I do use nearly each and every one of them. On the far right I’ve placed all the hair care products in this floral jewellery holder. The middle includes all the foot care products like my favourite foot mist with peppermint! The left holds the two foot soak tubs and the centre front part holds travel sized shower gels, a body scrub and a compress which I am yet to use with one of the bath and body oils.

Now this is something I’ve made use of instead of just hoarding it somewhere in my closet. I got a gift set from Victoria’s Secret and the products came in this vibrant pink heart-shaped case. Once the products were used up, I didn’t quite know what to do with it so here’s how I’ve organised a few other essentials of mine. I’ve got an extra face scrub in there along with a scented candle (lavender my favourite!), my L’Oreal eyes and lips makeup remover, and my lavender bath salts. See how pretty they look, all organised together πŸ™‚

I hope this somewhat gave you all an idea as to how every day items can be used to organise other bits and bops around your space.

7 Deadly Sins of Beauty Tag!

It’s a lovely Saturday over here in Sri Lanka and I’ve got plenty of plans for the rest of the day, including lunch with my hubby and good friend back from Australia. I didn’t quite know what to post today but I thought perhaps some pictures of our lunch outing but then again I thought a beauty tag would be fun. I did have fun with the last one I did so hopefully this would be the same πŸ˜€

1. GREED: What is your most inexpensive beauty item? What is your most expensive?

Most inexpensive item would have to be one of the lip balms. It’s from an old range of NYX Cosmetics (they do not have it anymore sadly) and it is in the shade Grazie. I simply love it!

Most expensive….hmmm this is a tough one because I do not buy expensive beauty items…. Can I mention something I’ve been gifted? Yeah okie… that would have to be a set of four Elizabeth Arden lipsticks.

2. WRATH: What beauty products do you have a love/hate relationship with?

The Christian Dior eyeliner pencil. Sometimes I feel like it works super well on my waterline and then on some days I just hate it because it does not apply as great as I want it to. Pfft!

3. GLUTTONY: What are your most delicious beauty products?

OMG! This has to be the lip glosses by Bath and Body Works! The particular one I have is a bit of an old one but it still have a teeny bit of product left and has a bubblegum flavour. Name seems to have rubbed off so I can’t really say what the product name was. Sooo yummilicious!

4. SLOTH: What beauty product do you neglect, due to laziness?

Liquid eyeliner for sure!!!!

5. PRIDE: What beauty product gives you the most self confidence?

On some occasions it is my NYX Retractable Liner and on other days it is a good bold lip colour.

6. LUST: What attributes do you find most attractive in the opposite sex?

Hmmm this might not sound too ‘lusty’ but I find kindness and thoughtfulness very attractive πŸ˜€

7. ENVY: What items would you most like to receive as a gift?

Sighhhh too many to mention! I’d LOVE a super pricey gift card to shop at NYX Cosmetics online…. I’d also love a ton of yummy body scrubs and lotions from The Body Shop and Bath and Body Works…. perhaps some new clutch and cross body bags from Newlook and maybe a couple more stuff from Spa Ceylon Ayurveda πŸ˜€

Tagging each and everyone of you to give this tag a try if you already haven’t!

Have a great weekend xoxo!

A few essentials

Here are a few of my travel essentials.  I hate travelling heavy and carrying too many essentials. Makeup is really a huge no no because I don’t want to have my face done while I’m on vacation.  It’s a waste of time so I usually pack just a lip balm.

In this instance, I’ve got my favourite NYX Colour Lip Balm in Grazie with me. I don’t use foundation or concealer so yay for me for not having to pack any of that either.

I’ve got my Garnier Fructis Moroccan Argan Oil Treatment with me, which I love and works excellently on my hair after a shower.

My Nivea anti – perspirant dry comfort roll on deo is another must have for me. It’s got a sweet floral fragrance which is quite likable too.

And finally a mini perfume of which brand I cannot remember! It’s got floral tones so I feel girly and fresh with every spray β™₯

New accessories!

I couldn’t help myself when I went shopping this afternoon. The Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations and shopping sprees are in full swing so many stores have excellent deals and offers. At the Backstage corner in Odel, you could purchase up to Rs. 2,000 and get a pair of funky flip flops for free. I got myself some adorable hair accessories!Β

Since my haircut, I’ve been in the mood for trying out headbands so I got myself three – a teal green one with gold studs, a black one with a cloth black rose and a beige one with tiny golden spots.Β

My free flip flops

Here’s a look at the cute flip flops I picked out! πŸ˜€

Flower power!

Here I am ready to go out to do some shopping! The excitement got to me and I thought I’d add a little girly trinket and went on to wearing my flower power hairpin πŸ™‚

Here’s a closer look at my cute hairpin.Β  It’s made of printed cloth and I got it a few years back from Odel. It doesn’t matter what I’m wearing or where I’m going – this cutie is ideal anyways πŸ™‚ I’ve got two more – one in cute white polka dots and another in pure white.Β

Off I go! Xoxo

For hair that shines….

I’m not one to use a lot of nonsense products on my hair apart from shampoo and conditioner. However, I happened to find the GarnierΒ Fructis Sleek and Shine Moroccan Sleek Oil Treatment a super-dee-duper product indeed!

I absolutely love the fact that it has Moroccan argan oil in it. Surprisingly there isn’t any oily residue once used. A drop or two is all you really need and the formula is instantly absorbed and conditions the hair. I use it after a shower but instructions note it can be used in the shower as a conditioner or on dry hair to add shine and tame frizz. When using it on wet hair, it adds softness. I have to admit that my hair does remain smooth and sleek for a good 2-3 days! Many others have mentioned the fragrance being overbearing but I happen to love it πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Great buy indeed! I’d definitely repurchase it πŸ™‚
