Let’s talk spring trends! I want to have different posts on different trends that I’ve seen both on the runway and also on the streets and put things together with my personal ideas. So as my first post, I’m going to talk about pastel shades!
I love pastel shades because I believe it gives a soft and extremely feminine look on any woman. Light and breezy fabrics add to that feeling of spring in the air and who can say no to baby blues, buttery yellows and pastel pinks?
Whether it’s a dress you’re wearing or a pair of jeans and a t shirt, I think it’s super easy to pair pastels wherever you go. If it’s a brunch, let it be a chiffon dress. If it’s a casual lunch date, let it be a skirt and pastel blouse. If it’s an afternoon out with the girls, let is be a pair of pastel jeans and a white tee. It’s just that easy. I got myself three pairs of pastel jeans that I can’t wait to wear in the next couple of days. I got them in baby pink, baby blue and lavender.
If you’re not all in to the whole pastels thing, I bet you’ve got at least one pastel shade pair of shoes in your closet somewhere. Once again, it’s super easy to work with pastel pairs of shoes because they go with just about anything you own. I’ve got plenty of pastel flats that I wear on a day-to-day basis, which are also super comfy and durable.
How cute and adorable do these handbags look? It’s like spring calling out in every sense of the shade ha ha! I don’t know about pairing some of my outfits with such pastel shade handbags simply because in a tropical country like where I live it would get dirty in just a week (what with all the dust and dirt in the air) but I think many can rock this combination with even a complete pastel or non-pastel outfit.
Let’s not forget the makeup shall we??? With the release of the movie Cinderella, there was this MAC range of pastel shaded makeup and I simply fell in love with those colours. Pastel makeup isn’t easy to work with but using single eyeshadows on the complete lid of the eye does create a very ethereal and feminine look, if that’s what you’re going for.
Stay tuned for more spring updates in the coming days!
It was just about time that someone decided to locally manufacture a solid and high quality pair of shoes in my country. It’s not that the men in Sri Lanka do not enjoy shopping abroad for essentials (because they do!) but it’s also says something when a pair of shoes are locally handcrafted and manufactured for the market.
The trio at Zealous have been busy developing a handcrafted loafer, to be made in Sri Lanka for some time now and launched their first mens footwear collection last December. All raw materials from the sole to the handloom fabric are locally sourced and put together in Colombo. Seeing as each shoe is handcrafted, this has allowed them some liberty on how the final product truly is more than the sum of its parts. From leather to the label that nestles underneath the heel, the trio have put in a little more thought into every part that makes up a Dodo Footwear.
The handloom industry is currently regarded to be in a slump in Sri Lanka, not because the artisans lack trade craft or skills but because they lack proper channels to display and market their craft to a new market, be it local or international. The trio behind Dodo intend on changing this by developing products that satisfy the expectations of the modern consumer while preserving what makes each handcrafted product unique.
Our focus is providing a truly handcrafted product to each one of our customers because at Zealous, quality always trumps quantity.
I find the footwear to be made of the best of quality and the attention to detail is also impeccable. They are a solid and comfortable pair of mens footwear and I hear they are also in the process of creating a line for women as well.
Prices start at Rs. 3,500 for each pair and one can also opt to pick a different colour from their colour chart to personalise their Dodo footwear.

It’s Paris Couture Week and I believe that the best fashion pics are spotted not just on the runway but also off the runway – in the streets!
Here are a couple of my favourites:
These were images I found on the Vogue site and I’ve also seen some pretty amazing street chic styles all over Facebook as well.
I’ve a couple of favourite designers who showcased their collections at Paris Couture Week so stay tuned for my favourite runway looks in the coming days 🙂
I’ve been going insane this month with all the little sales and discounts at stores. This was an impulsive buy I tell you, but a good one at that 😛
My mum wanted to go for this seasonal sale at the convention centre in town and so I tagged along not wanting her to go by myself. Well, safe to say the sale was a bit of a bummer except for the fact that these shoes were the only thing that caught my eye and my wallet. They costed me just Rs. 1,200 which I must say was a bargain for such a cute and funky pair of shoes. I absolutely love the detail at the front and the back is open so it’s an easy to wear pair.
What’d you think? 😀
Are you on Pinterest?
I certainly am and I totally love it! I think it’s like the coolest (what’s the word – app?) thing ever to be on and you find the most amazing images and ideas for your day to day life.
This what my personal (homepage?) wall looks like and these are some of the boards I pin on. I first got on to finding images on Pinterest because of work. We tend to look for images that would be suitable for work related articles and at the time I was writing a ton of fashion related articles and so this one time I wrote on jewellery. I initially searched on Google for images but somehow came across some that were on Pinterest and was totally blown away by the originality and uniqueness. In a matter of days I had pinned over 500 pins I believe in my ‘It’s All About The B.L.I.N.G.’ board and then got hooked on multiple other images that I pinned onto ‘My Favourite Things’.
I love nail polish and so board – ‘All About Nails’ – followed a week or two later and well, every other board followed suit too from shoes to inspirational quotes, food, drinks, bridal related images, couture, lingerie, bath and body products as well as fashion.
I started out sometime early last year and to-date I have over 300 followers, which I think is quite cool considering I pin only specific whatnots and not just about everything I come. I happen to be very picky and choosy. If it’s for the ‘Bath and Body’ board, I look for images that really look good, that are angled well and shot with great lighting and so on, so you can really tell I am picky as to what I choose to pin. It has to be that way in my mind. If it doesn’t look good or appealing to me, then I just would not pin it lol!
My ‘Outfit Inspiration’ board is one of my absolute favourites. These are not necessarily outfits that I myself can wear but outfits that are well put-together and chic at all times. I’ve also got a ‘Desi Inspiration’ board which is for all things desi-fied 😀 I believe that is the board that has the most number of pins.
On my board ‘Destination Wherever’ I’ve also tried to highlight some images I’ve captured myself of my country and of the places I go to. I do not pin on that board as frequently as I think I should however. ‘Bag It’ is another favourite board which includes images of all sorts of bags – clutches, hobos, cross body, satchels and so on.
I don’t follow too many others who pin because it feels like it crowds my homepage a lot, but some of the knows IDs include forever21, Micheal Kors, Victoria’s Secret, NYX Cosmetics, Jimmy Choo and Elie Saab.
Images on bridals, wedding decor and wedding themes really helped with the planning of my wedding so you can take a look at what inspires me on the board ‘Here Comes The Bride. I do not limit it in any way, so you’ll find everything wedding related in there. Same goes for the ‘Dream House’ board. It’s basically got everything from living room ideas to garden ideas, vanity ideas to bathroom ideas and everything in-between.
