Brick lips

Wedding season is in full throttle here in Colombo and well, I’ve had to dress up pretty much every single night for over a week now due to all the weddings we’ve been attending. This is a sneak peak of my look from last night. I wore a red and cream coloured shalwar and topped my face with just minimal eyeliner and a bold red lip (Elizabeth Arden lipstick in the shade Brick).

2-in-1 Impact Shadow Liner review

Been trying out a new liner by Maybelline Eyestudio. I got this last year while shopping in Malaysia and have worn it quite a few times already. I don’t know if I like it lesser or more than my NYX Cosmetics retractable liner but it’s somewhere there in my good books.

So as the name suggests, this is a 2 in 1 shadow liner. Meaning, it can be used an a liner or shadow liner that can be smudged to create a eyeshadow effect on the eye lids. I find that the packaging is quite simple and easy to work with. It’s not twistable or retractable so you’ve got to sharpen it when the product tip runs out which is also okay with me. Sharpening the tip means I get a good thin line marking when I use it. The nib however can be a little annoying because you don’t always close it right and then bits of the product gets caught it in.

Once applied onto my eyes, I find that it stays on smudge-proof for quite a couple of hours. If I can to say exactly how long, I’d say about 6 to 7 hours without peeling, smudging or running too dry. I like products like this. It’s also got a good pigmentation and I don’t have to run it over and over to get a good dark colour. One line or two does the trick for me. It does actually glide on with ease so that’s another plus point.

Would I be interested in buying more colours in this range? Definitely would love to!

L’Oreal Paris Super Liner Blackbuster Intense review

I like the packaging of the product

Now that name is quite a mouthful! I’m going to just call it the blackbuster intense, easy. A friend of mine wanted me to get a liner with sort of a felt like sponge tip for easy application and no mess so I saw this product at the airport in a two-in-one package set and decided to get one for myself. Was it a good choice – yeah…kinda…

The sponge like felt tip

The product description goes as follows: An intense graphic eyeliner, with a striking black pigment that lasts for 8 hours. Inspired to re-create a catwalk look, with the thickest liner yet. An error proof, smooth guide, easy to use marker pen. The innovative “black ink formula” creates a striking bold look, which lasts. The formula also enables an easy to apply and remove application.

As far as intensity goes, you’re going to need to apply this liner a few times over the first application. I found that this way, the intensity obviously grew but wasn’t as graphic as I wanted it with just one swipe. It takes a bit of getting used to too. It has almost a spongy felt tip so it’s not like using a pencil or liquid liner. I thought this would be the best part of the product because it does not bend and allows me to draw one proper line on my eyelid but then again, I don’t like the fact that I have to keep redoing it to get a good black pigment. I tried this with and without eyeshadow on my eyelids. Even without eyeshadow, I needed two applications to get a good colour. So in short this is not a one swipe and one good pigment type of liner. I also don’t know about it lasting a good eight hours because I only wore mine for about four. It did last quite well for that amount of time however and I am impressed.

Colour looks pretty good on my hand

As far making errors goes…. the only thing that could go wrong is you make a thicker line than you wanted to and have no way of going back on this. It happened to me and well, I just continued on and remarked the thick line. These things tend to happen and I don’t know how to go back on it…besides I liked the end result so all is well.

Do I think this was a worthy investment – well..kinda…

Would I repurchase – hard to say….I probably might but I think I’d use my liquid liner more often than this..

Beauty – Would You Rather TAG

Hi everyone!

It’s Monday morning here in Sri Lanka and I was honestly looking for something different to post and I came across this beauty tag posted by StyleBreakdown. I thought it was a fun tag to give a try and see how differently I’d answer the question so I hope you all find my post interesting in some way 😀

1. Would you rather lose all of your mascaras, eyeliners, lipsticks, and lip glosses or lose all of your palettes and eye shadows?

This one is a pretty easy question for me purely because I don’t use palettes and eye shadows on a daily basis. I’d give it up and lose it all without batting a lash!

2. Would you rather chop all of your hair off or never be able to cut it again?

Jeepers! I recently had a haircut and tried out something very different with a short do this time….. But here’s the thing; I wouldn’t mind chopping it all off because it’s going to grow back at some point rather than never be able to cut it again because that would be totally insane.

3. Would you rather have a coral cheek or a pink cheek?

Coral ain’t the colour for me so pink cheek it is!

4. If you had $1000 to spend, would you rather buy clothes or makeup?

Darn it, this one was definitely a hard question to answer… but I’m going to have to go with clothes.

5. Would you rather apply lipstick as eyeliner, or eyeliner as lipstick?

Eyeliner as a lipstick! Lipsticks are too chunky to be used as eyeliners whereas eyeliners would work a lot easier on the lips.

6. Would you rather only shop at MAC or Sephora?

Sephora for sure! Simply because there are so many brands under one roof instead of just shopping at one store which has one brand. I love diversity and choices 😀

7. Would you rather only use one eyeshadow colour or one lip colour for the rest of your life?

Ah another easy one for me – one eyeshadow colour for the rest of my life please 🙂 I’d go with having just one very basic, nude-like shade for the rest of my life and multiple options for my lips because I love lip products.

8. Would you rather wear winter clothes in summer or summer clothes in winter?

Thankfully we do not have winter over here in Sri Lanka but I have experienced winter so many times and oh boy this is a tough one. I do not like feeling too cold and always want to be comfortable and bundled up in cold weather so I guess I’m going to have to go with winter clothes in summer even though I know for a fact that I’ll melt my a** off ha ha!

9. Would you rather have dark nails or bright nails all year round?

BRIGHT NAILS! I love colour even though I do like certain dark colours on my nails but brighter colours are always so fun and I just love a pop of colour at all times.

10. Would you rather give up your favourite lip colour or favourite eye product.

I’d give up my favourite eye product. If I’d been asked this question a year ago my answer would have been very different but I’ve been experimenting with lip colours a lot this year and wouldn’t mind giving up my favourite eyeliner just to keep all my favourite lip colours.

11. Would you rather only be able to wear your hair in a ponytail or messy bun?

A simple ponytail is fine by me and right now with my short haircut, a teeny ponytail is all I can make do with!

12. Would you rather never be able to paint your nails again or never use lipgloss?

I’m NOT a lipgloss fan so I’d rather never be able to use lipgloss than be able to paint my nails.

13. Would you rather shave your eyebrows and have none at all or sharpie them in everyday?

Yikes, this is another tough cookie! Hmmm……..Sharpie eyebrows are going to look super weird but so is no eyebrows at all…. Gah!!!! I suppose if I used the Sharpie in the best way possible it would be okie rather than not having eyebrows at all eh?

14. Would you rather live without makeup or nail polish?

Not a happy decision to make but I’d rather live without nail polish than without makeup.

This was quite a fun tag to participate in and if you think the same, go ahead and answer the questions but don’t forget to tag me so I check out your answers too! Have fun xoxo!

My favourite NYX Cosmetics products :D

I was introduced to NYX Cosmetics sometime late last year by a friend/colleague at work. She’d been surfing the website all morning and I happened to look across her screen and noticed the beautiful lippies and vibrant colours. When asked, she talked non-stop about how great the soft matte lip creams were and how great their colour payoff was. I then looked up some online beauty bloggers’ reviews of the same and thought about getting some for myself. Since, I have been hooked to these amazing products. I love that they are of good great quality and decently priced. Most of the lippies, including the matte lipstick and creamy round lipsticks have great pigmentation. The retractable liners are another favourite as well as the jumbo lip and eye pencils. Okie, so this post is going to be a mini review of some of my top favourites. Enjoy!

Black, Brown and Gypsy Blue
Black, Brown and Gypsy Blue

Retractable Eye Liner in Black – Twist and shout! Renowned for its extreme lasting power, this creamy liner delivers intense pigmentation and precise application in an easy, twist-up tube that never needs sharpening.

I love this liner because it’s user friendly and so easy to apply. Just twist the tube and the product pops out. It glides on with ease and I love using it to create a cat eye whenever I go out at night.

Jumbo Eye Pencil in Slate – A radiant eye liner that also doubles as an eye shadow. Made with a blend of mineral oil and powder, our creamy Jumbo Eye Pencils glide on effortlessly—no pulling, tugging or fading—and come in a rainbow of vivid hues. Our most voluptuous pencil yet!

Who can say no to products that can be used for multiple purposes? Not I! I love the pigmentation of these colours and my most favourite is the colour Slate which is like a deep grey shade. I use it as both a liner and shadow. Again, it simply glides on with ease. It’s also great to use as an eyeshadow and then blend out to create a smokey effect.

Jumbo Lip Pencils, Studio Liquid Liner and Jumbo Eye Pencils
Jumbo Lip Pencils, Studio Liquid Liner and Jumbo Eye Pencils

Studio Liquid Liner in Extreme Black – Transform your look in seconds with this super-pigmented eye liner that highlights eyes with an electrifying stroke of colour. The fine brush tip allows for precision application, and can be used to create lines of varying thickness. Go subtle or go glam.

I’ve never been a fan of liquid liners, mostly because I always felt like I wouldn’t be able to take it off with ease if I made a mistake. The studio liquid liner however has a fine brush tip and my trick is to first make dot like marks on where I want to create my line and then connect the dots. For bolder looks, I just create an outline over a normal liner look and then colour between the gap. Easy peasy!

Jumbo Lip Pencil in Iced Coffee– It’s double or nothing with this lip liner and lipstick in one. Our Jumbo Lip Pencils infuse lips with alluring, nourishing colour, and help you create a perfect pout. Line, define and colour with one jumbo pencil. Plus the mineral oil formula does not dry out your lips and it goes on smoothly. In 24 seductive shades.

These are the perfect alternative to lipsticks and glosses in the sense that they are easy to carry and you do not have to twist the tub or whatever. I find them super handy to carry around in my handbag and love the shade iced coffee so far. I will surely be getting my hands on more colours soon 😀

New lot!

Monte Carlo, Addis Ababa and Amsterdam

Soft Matte Lip Cream in Monte Carlo – Neither lipstick nor lip gloss, this matte lip cream is a new kind of lip colour that goes on silky smooth and sets to a matte finish. Soft Matte Lip Cream is surprisingly durable and, unlike some matte lipstick formulas, also moisturising.

I think I’ve said all there is to be said about these gorgeous soft matte lip creams. They are the loves of my life and each time I purchase a new shade, I fall in love all over again. My first favourite was Milan, then it grew to Prague and Amsterdam. My current hot faves are Zurich and Monte Carlo, two opposite colours and yet fabulous ones.

Great opaque colour

Nail Polish Salon Formula in Elegance – One coat of this pro-favourite polish is all it takes to transform your hands from ho-hum to haute stuff. With so many brilliant, on-trend colours and 10 nail treatments, our Salon Formula system makes it easy to get sexy, salon-quality manis and pedis without ever leaving home.

This is the only colour I own from the salon formula range of polishes and I actually bought it on whim. I picked the lightest shade I preferred and am actually happy with my choice. Elegance is a very soft opaque pinky colour and I love the wear because it doesn’t chip easily and does me good for a week or so.

Creamy Round Lipsticks, Butter Balms and Butter Glosses

Here are a few more of some of my favourites from the brand – Creamy Round Lipsticks (loveeee Chaos), Butter Balms in Ladyfingers and Parfait and Butter Glosses (Meringue tops my faves).

Going green!

Some of my favourite green items

I’ve been thinking of putting together my favourite colours in one picture. Here, I’ve got all my favourite green items 🙂

Dan Brown is one if my favourite authors and Inferno was the last book I read that was by him. This colourful wallet by Lilly Bloom also made its way to the picture even though I don’t use it anymore. My oh so favoured Chic Confetti nail polish by Elf Cosmetics and Sleep Therapy Body and Pillow Mist are used nearly every other day or so. I’ve included the blouse of the last saree I wore too. It’s certainly a favourite of mine because the colour is a unique green. Cool Citrus is my favourite fragrance by Bath and Body Works so I’ve included the shower gel. The Pear Blossom Air fine fragrance mist is a new addition to my growing collection 🙂 I use my peppermint lip balm by Maybelline on a daily basis and then there is also the L’Oréal Blue Haute Couture shadow palette that has a gorgeous sea green colour I love very much 🙂

What are your green favourites?
