Strawberries galore!

image

Visiting a strawberry farm is a must when in Nuwara Eliya. There are plenty along the way but the best I’ve come across has got to be the Adma Agro Strawberry Farm just five minutes from the hotel we stayed at and close to Lake Gregory.

Mind you, the strawberries produced in Sri Lanka are not very large in size. Depending on the elevation of the farm, some are sweet and some are sour.

The itty bitty strawberries

I’ve always loved strawberries and to me it doesn’t matter if it’s sour or sweet. Here’s how I had servings of strawberries on multiple occasions at Nuwara Eliya:

Night out in NE

We decided to go all out on our last night in Nuwara Eliya and reserved tables at the Grand Thai for a scrumptious dinner. Here is a look at what I wore:

T at the Grand

T lounge at Grand

I’m a huge fan of the Dilmah t lounge back in Colombo and surprise surprise, they have one opened at the Grand Hotel in Nuwara Eliya as well!

Variety of tea

The menu looks quite consistent except for the additional t shots and cocktails. The yummilicious crepes are not included but they do make up for it in terms of more savory items.

I decided to try something that’s not available at the Chatham Street outlet and so ordered the Rosehip and Hibiscus mocktail with Pink Ginger Beer.

Rosehip and Hibiscus mocktail

Sadly I was quite disappointed with this one. I have never been disappointed with my previous selections but this one lacked a kick in the flavour which really downed the quality of the entire mocktail. I needed a hefty load of sugar syrup to make up for the lightened flavour but my happy bubble was already popped.

Oolong tea

My husband always goes for warm teas so he selected a light Oolong for the mid-morning.

What Dilmah teas have you tried? Comment below and let me know!  🙂

Summer hat

Although I’m currently holidaying in the countryside and the climate is cool, we’re at a higher elevation than Colombo so the sun hits quite stronger. You don’t necessarily sweat but it’s powerful enough to give you a headache or heat stroke if you don’t tend to yourself. So I went out and got myself a cute sun hat!

You’ll find plenty of these and others in similar styles by Lake Gregory as well as in the little town. Each have silk ribbons wrapped around the headpiece and mine was done in the shape of a rose ♡

Hakgala Botanical Gardens

Hakgala Botanical Gardens

Approximately ten minutes away from our boutique hotel is the Hakgala Botanical Gardens.

The countryside is home to a beautiful variety of flora and fauna so take a look at some of the beauties found at the gardens.

It’s black and white

People tend to dress up a little bit in ol’ Little England. I may have come to the town in an old pair of jeans and a drab kurta but I changed things up for the latter part of the day when we decided to visit a few places.

My look

I went with a chic black and white look for the evening with my outfit. This is me wearing a pair of chappals I scored from a street bazaar in India during one of my many trips there, black leggings, a black and white ethnic kurta and black shawl from India as well. The leggings are from Westside and the kurta is from one of my favourite stores, Global Desi.

The Nuwara Eliya town ain’t that big so there’s only a few places you can visit. We headed to the famous Grand Hotel for a snack and were quite surprised to find a tlounge by Dilmah on the outside veranda.

Urban setup

The menu is very much similar to that of the tlounge located at Chatham Street in Fort, Colombo 1 and so we sat down to grilled chicken sandwiches and yummilicious flavoured cups of warm tea.

♡ Holidaying in May ♡

It’s the vesak season here in Lanka and the holiday mood has already set in. People are off to places for the long weekend and so am I! Any guesses as to where?

The beautiful countryside

My family and I are in Nuwara Eliya! Fondly known as Little England, the countryside is a favourite choice amongst many as a holiday destination. The weather here is absolutely lovely – slightly chilly but plenty of sunshine. On the way here you’ll find plenty of tea estates as Sri Lanka exports worldwide.

Lovely drive and a cup of tea

We’re staying at Dafodill, a newly opened bungalow that includes a total of 17 bedrooms. I have to admit the interior is quite lovely and well furnished. Many of the bungalows, hotels and inns have a British touch which is also why the little town is called Little England.

We will be touring the little town during the next couple of days so stay tuned for more updates!
